Prescription charge to rise to £9.90 on 1st May 2024


The Department of Health and Social Care  has announced that from 1st May 2024, the NHS prescription charge will increase to £9.90 per prescription item


Prescription Prepayment Certificate

A prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) could save you money if you pay for your NHS prescriptions. The certificate covers all your NHS prescriptions for a set price. PPCs offer savings for those needing any four or more prescription items in three months, or 12 or more items in a year.

From the 1st May 2024 the cost of a three-month PPC will become £32.05, whilst a 12-month PPC is increasing to £114.50. Before buying a PPC, check if you’re entitled to free NHS prescriptions and other help with health costs using the NHS eligibility checker.


NHS Hormone Replacement Therapy Prescription Prepayment Certificate (HRT PPC)

If you get prescriptions for hormone replacement therapy (HRT), you may save more with the Hormone Replacement Therapy Prescription Prepayment Certificate (HRT PPC).
This will also increase to £19.80 on the 1st May 2024.
