GP Training Practice

Groombridge and Hartfield Medical Group is a training practice accredited by the GP Deanery of Kent, Surrey and Sussex, as suitable for the training of doctors intending to become general medical practitioners. This means that at any time there will be GP trainee(s) working with us at the surgery. During their time with us these doctors become an integral part of our practice team and an invaluable resource for patients. We find that having junior clinicians on the team helps to keep us up to date, adds freshness and enthusiasm to our team, and develops the NHS workforce of the future.

Foundation Year Doctors (F2s)
Prior to becoming a Registrar, and having already obtained a medical degree, trainees spend 2 years in Foundation Training. During the second year of foundation training, 4 months is spent in general practice. F2 Doctors remain under clinical supervision (as do all Doctors in training) but take on increasing responsibility for patient care. They have a much longer appointment time allocated as they need more time than a qualified GP to manage each individual case. At the end of their training, F2 Doctors will have begun to demonstrate the skill requirements that are essential for hospital or general practice training.

Registrar Doctors
A GP Registrar or GP Trainee is a qualified Doctor who will become a GP through a period of training in hospital and in General Practice. They are employed by one of our partners at the surgery who will act as their trainer. GP Registrars are assessed on their consulting skills by specially appointed assessors who view a video of the Registrars’ consultations. You may be asked to have your consultation recorded for this purpose. If you agree, you will be asked to sign a written consent form. You may be assured that complete confidentiality will be maintained and that the video recording will be used for educational purposes only.

Medical Students
We often have medical students attending the practice to experience our work. Patients will always be asked whether or not they are happy for students to be present before being seen by the doctor.
