Chaperone Policy

We operate the following Chaperone Policy at this Practice:

1. Any patient can request a chaperone for any physical examination.
2. Before performing an intimate examination, your doctor or nurse will ask if you would like a chaperone present.
3. For intimate examinations, it is often required that a chaperone be present.
4. The chaperone will typically be a nurse or a specially trained member of staff, though it may occasionally be a doctor or another qualified healthcare professional.
5. Before inviting the chaperone into the examination room, your doctor or nurse will check that you are comfortable with the chosen chaperone.
6. Once the chaperone is present, your doctor or nurse will reiterate the nature of the examination and the reasons for it to ensure you fully understand the process.
7. The chaperone will always stand inside the curtain during the examination
8. The chaperone is primarily there as an independent observer of the procedure but they can also provide support and may assist by passing equipment to the doctor or nurse.
