Before trying to register with the surgery, first check if you are in our catchment area:
Register with the Surgery
We are using a new online service that makes it easy for patients to register with us. Designed and run by the NHS, this platform ensures your personal information is safe, whilst reducing our administrative workload.
To register, please complete the following steps:
• fill out an online registration form, or
• visit the surgery during our opening hours to collect a paper registration form, or download the form here: NHS – Register with a GP Surgery
Children under 16 must be registered by their parent or guardian. You will need to bring your child’s birth certificate, red book, or another form of ID to the surgery to confirm that you are their parent or guardian.
Named GP
Every patient registered at Groombridge and Hartfield Medical Group is assigned a named GP, or ‘Usual Doctor,’ who is responsible for their overall care at the practice. Patients are evenly distributed among our doctors, which means you may be assigned a GP you haven’t seen recently. Having a named GP doesn’t restrict you to seeing only that doctor, nor are they the only clinician who can provide your care. You’re welcome to see any clinician at the practice, subject to availability. If you have a preferred GP, let us know, and we’ll do our best to try and accommodate your request, though this may not always be possible.
If you have registered with another practice (including an on-campus surgery) and need to see a GP whilst you are home for the holidays, we can register you as a temporary patient before offering you an appointment. If you have completed your university course and are returning to the area permanently, you will need to re-register with the surgery.
Temporary Registration
If you’re visiting from outside the area and need urgent or emergency medical care, please contact your registered GP first. If they can’t help over the phone, we recommend visiting an Urgent Treatment Centre or seeking advice from a local pharmacy. You can also use 111.nhs.uk or call 111. If the issue remains unresolved, before being offered an appointment you will need to visit the practice and complete a temporary patient form for up to 14 days of care, while staying registered with your own practice.
We do not register temporary patients to obtain repeat medication. You will need to contact your registered GP practice or 111. They can forward a prescription to a nearby pharmacy.
